How often is the appropriate time to give pets a bath in summer

Summer has arrived, and the frequency of pet bathing needs to be determined based on the type of pet, hair type, living environment, and activity level. Here are some general suggestions:

1、 Dog

Shorthair dogs: Due to their relatively short fur, they are less likely to accumulate dirt and grime, so it is recommended to take a bath once a month. During high temperatures in summer, it is advisable to increase the frequency of showering appropriately, but not too frequently, in order to avoid damaging the skin's oil layer and causing skin diseases.
Medium to long haired dogs: Medium to long haired dogs have longer hair and are prone to dust and dirt. It is recommended to take a bath every 2-3 weeks. Similarly, in summer, it is advisable to increase the frequency of bathing in moderation, but attention should be paid to protecting skin health.
Long haired dogs: Long haired dogs have longer and denser hair, which is prone to tangling and dirt accumulation. Therefore, it is recommended to take a bath every 1-2 weeks. In summer, due to the hot weather and increased activity of dogs, it is advisable to shorten the bathing interval appropriately, but excessive bathing should also be avoided.
exceptional case:
Puppies: Especially puppies that have not yet been vaccinated and dewormed, it is best not to give them a bath first to avoid catching a cold or contracting a disease.
Pregnant dogs and dogs in estrus: You can give them a wipe to keep them clean and avoid stress reactions caused by bathing.
Elderly dogs: Due to weak skin resistance, it is recommended to reduce the frequency of bathing appropriately, usually once a month.

2、 Cat

Cats have more sensitive skin than dogs, and they have the ability to self clean, so it is not advisable to take too many showers. Long haired cats can take a bath every two months, while short haired cats can even take a bath every six months. Excessive bathing can damage the oil layer on a cat's skin, leading to dryness, itching, and dandruff.

3、 Precautions

Combing hair before bathing: Before bathing pets, help them comb their hair and make it neat, which can reduce tangling and pulling pain during bathing.
Use pet specific toiletries: Avoid using shampoo or shower gel as these products may contain harmful ingredients to pet skin.
Blow dry pet hair after showering: After showering, be sure to use a hair dryer to completely dry the pet's hair to avoid catching a cold or causing skin diseases. Especially for long haired pets, blow drying their hair is particularly important.
Observing pet reactions: During the bathing process, it is important to pay attention to the reactions and status of pets. If discomfort or resistance is found, it is necessary to stop bathing in a timely manner and seek professional advice.
